The ten Boom family had helped save over 800 Jews from the holocaust. When the Nazi soldiers were capturing Jews, the ten Boom family led by Casper, their father, had helped hide the Jewish people who would come to their house. Their house was a secret hiding place for the Jews and the Dutch underground people were able to stay here for days or months or when the ten Boom family is able to find another safe house for them to move in to. Because of their decision to save the Jews and the Dutch underground, Casper had put his, his wife's and his children's lives in danger of being captured. He knew of the dangers but they decided to pursue with it because it was their way of living their Christian life and duties.
Unfortunately, in February 28 of 1944, this family was captured when a secret police came and monitored the house. Many Jews were also captured and the family had to be imprisoned as well. The first one to perish was Casper ten Boom. At that time, he was already quite old and in just a few days of captivity, he succumbed to his death. Later on, the rest of the family also perished except for one, Carrie. Carrie ten Boom survived and was lucky enough to be freed days before the rest of the prisoners were killed.
Carrie ten Boom had received numerous recognitions for the contributions of her family to saving hundreds of Jews. Today, you can take a glimpse of their life through the Ten Boom Museum in Haarlem, Holland. You can check some of the photos of the museum from the tenboom.org website so you can get a glimpse of what the museum looks like even when you are not in Haarlem, Holland. You can even take the virtual tour and feel like you're actually inside the museum. You will get a 360 degree view of the museum and get a clearer story about their lives back during the holocaust. Many people have said that learning about the ten Boom family had changed their lives and had increased their faith in God. By sharing the virtual tour to as many people as possible, the movement is hoping to reach as many who may also have a better sense of what faith really means and can have a stronger relationship with God.
The family had the tradition of praying weekly for the people in Jerusalem and for all the Jews in the world. The ten Boom foundation wants to continue this tradition that ended in 1944 when the family was captured. Now, more and more people are joining in on this tradition by praying weekly for the Jews around the world and for Jerusalem. It's a non-profit organization that does not receive any funds from the government of Israel. It is funded by the compassion of people who believes in their advocacy. Don't hesitate to get involved.
